Excel's Brand New Series Snowball Maths: What Makes it Unique?
By Pascal Press I November 11, 2025
When learning Mathematics, confidence grows through small, steady progress. That's exactly what Excel Snowball Maths is designed to nurture.
Just like a snowball gathers size and strength as it rolls down a hill, students build momentum in their learning as they work through each Snowball Maths unit. Developed by experienced high-school Maths teacher Moonie Kim, this brand-new series has been trialled and refined in real classrooms for over seven years, helping students strengthen their understanding and develop confidence in their mathematical ability.
Why was Snowball Maths Created?
Many students struggle to keep up in Maths when new concepts are introduced too quickly, or when they miss foundational steps along the way. Moonie Kim saw this first-hand while teaching students in schools with a high number of EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) learners.
He noticed that many students needed wasn't just more questions, it was structured support that helped them understand what each question was asking and how to approach it.
That insight became the foundation for Excel Snowball Maths. A self-learning workbook series that builds knowledge step by step, helping students catch up, keep up and move ahead.
What Makes Snowball Maths Unique?
Unlike traditional workbooks, Excel Snowball Maths combines instruction, guidance and practice in one carefully structured format.
- Embedded hints and step-by-step instructions show students how to approach each problem, helping them learn the reasoning behind the solution. For example, see page 64 from our Year 8 Excel Snowball Maths workbook.

- Generous working space gives students plenty of room to set our their answers clearly, helping them practice the layout of real exam-style responses. For example, see page 77 from our Year 8 Excel Snowball Maths workbook.

- Progressive concept building ensures students only move on once they've mastered the previous level, creating a strong foundation before tackling more complex ideas.
This structured, supportive approach makes Snowball Maths ideal for independent learning, exam preparation or classroom reinforcement, all while keeping students engaged and motivated.
Who Is It For?
Each title in the Snowball Maths series for Years 7,8,9 and 10 is designed to meet students where they are, helping them:
- Get a clear introduction to the Maths course at their level
- Strengthen understanding of key concepts
- Fill gaps in their Maths knowledge
- Boost confidence and performance in class and exams
Whether students are revising, catching up, or looking to extend their skills, Excel Snowball Maths provides the structure and support they need to succeed.
